Kameni: “I’m enjoying my best moments as a ‘Malaguista’”
With his trademark smile, Málaga CF’s Cameroon-born goalkeeper held a press conference following this morning’s training session: “I’m enjoying my best moments as a ‘Malaguista.’”
The Málaga CF goalkeeper is looking forward to a special match on Saturday against RCD Espanyol, the team he was with for eight seasons: “I’m going back to what was my home. I’ve got a lot of respect and affection for the Club and the fans, but now I’m with Málaga CF.”
His principal objective this Saturday is to “make sure we don’t concede a goal, and help the team to score. We need to do everything possible to secure a win this weekend. Our strong defence starts further upfront, and the team’s collective hard work really shows.”
With regards to the group’s attacking display, Carlos has no doubts. “We’ve got some great, quality players. The goals will come as we’ve got strong strikers upfront. We need to continue with the same dynamic and give it time.”
Kameni talks about the competition between the Málaga goalkeepers, and his difficulty on arrival at the Blue and Whites’ Club: “I’d been in the starting line-up for seven years, but these things happen. The position isn’t mine, it’s Málaga CF’s, but I try my best to work hard every day to be at my best for each game and do my job well. In football, competition really helps to improve a player’s skill level. I’m always learning as I train, and go home happy after a good day’s work. The competition with Ochoa is the same as it was with Willy, a healthy competition.”
His return to the starting line-up could open doors for him to take part in the Africa Cup with Cameroon, but Carlos isn’t focusing on that right now: “I don’t even want to think about that. I went through a lot with my national team, so I prefer to focus on my Club and enjoy every moment to the max.”
