Juande: “This team never gives a match away”

Before the match against Leganés, the coach is relatively concerned about the absences: “I know that the players who will be in action are extremely keen”.

Absences

“We’re currently going through a streak that is difficult to explain, with regards to the injured players, and each day there are new absences.  However, I’ve always said that we have sufficient players to make up the 11, and we can complete the line-up with players from the reserve team, that’s what they’re there for.  I’m relatively concerned, but I know that the players who will be in action are extremely keen and will do their best.”

Three points

“I don’t see such emergencies as we’re in week 9.  We’re in a mid-table position, so talking about a final I find surprising.  When we played against Eibar, Alavés, Athletic…I was asked the same thing.  I think a drama is being created that I can’t see at all.  We’re facing a match against a rival, who at this time are ahead of us in the rankings.  We’re only in the first third of LaLiga, there are still a lot of points to win.  Every First Division match is important, three points are in play, but I don’t see all the drama”.

Leganés

“They are a team with ambition and who impose a very orderly style of play.  As with all teams that move up to the First Division, they are very committed to their fans to ensure they save the season.  They are very organised, good on the counter-attack and I think they do many things well.  The reward of all this is their current position in the middle of the table”.

Comebacks

“The most positive aspect of the team is that in the majority of matches we’ve been trailing behind on the scoreboard, and been capable of making a comeback.  I think this is very positive from the point of view that despite being behind, the team never gives a match away.  I cannot explain why this always happens.  Apart from that, the goals we’ve conceded have come more from unexpected situations, and the positive thing is the team has the mentality to turn a match around.”
