José González: “The team will most definitely grow”

The coach defines his idea before the match against Las Palmas: “We want to be a very competitive team. When the rival steps on to the pitch, we want them to know they’ll face a tough opponent”.

New faces in the winter transfer window

“A team with a lower than desired number of points needs additional players so that the level of competition within the squad can grow. That is what was sought. We now have a large squad, but also a more competitive one, which will allow us to grow. As for the situation regarding these new players for tomorrow, unfortunately not all of them have arrived with the number of matches under their belt that we would have liked. In many cases they are players who came in search of minutes, and if they win a place they can have them here. It’s in their hands to play better than those they are competing with, and that’s something which we’ll all benefit from”.

Focused on our match

“We are playing tomorrow at Estadio Gran Canaria, and that is what I’m concentrating on. Competing, focusing on our own game. During the weekends we will have beneficial results for our interests, as well as negative ones. It’s logical that the others will tighten up, which is what we have to do. I believe we are tightening, we’re competing, in the two matches since we arrived the team has competed well. We’ve had chances to win, and that is what it’s about, that tomorrow we’ll see a team with possibilities to win and claim the three points. We’ve had a very long week preparing thoroughly for the match, and I think we’ve worked well. The ideas of what needs to be done to win the match are very clear”.

Very important match

“Speaking of finals, which is what all matches are to us, the players live them with a greater intensity… I believe that intensity will always be there, as you wear a shield and you owe it to a great deal of people who have a passion for it. They are professionals. In the end there’ll always be another match, and from here to the end we will face finals, as our situation is uncomfortable. For us it’s a very important match, as they all will be”.

Competitiveness

We want to be a very competitive team. When the rival steps on to the pitch, we want them to know they’ll face a tough opponent. That’s what any coach wants, for the rival to say they’re up against a difficult, very competitive team. That is our intention. We are in a kind of pre-season unfortunately, but I think that at times we’ve seen what we want, which gives us hope. The team will most definitely grow, and we have a pretty solid foundation to be able to do that”.
