José González: “The team always stands up to the rival”

The Málaga CF coach held a press conference in the Benito Villamarín press room following the clash with Real Betis: “We weren’t able to finish many situations”.

Stand up

“I think we’ve had 11 defeats in this second round, nine of which have been by a minimal difference. That clearly shows that the team is always immersed in the games and stands up to the rival, but we have never had a little bit of good luck or success on our side. Today, in the second half is when there would be a break in the game. The home side came out better in this half, however when we began to gain possession we weren’t able to finish many situations that never even made it to the area. They were free to approach the area and allow us to take the lead”.

Match analysis

“Fabián won the match. He’s a great player and has shown that he has punch. It was a struggle for us. The effort of my players was impeccable. I have not got a ‘but’ about any one of them. We faced this match with the connotations of the season, not playing for points or an objective, but to maintain the dignity of the shield and a Club we owe it to. We had to work extremely hard this week and propose a new system with prolonged video sessions to impose a new system of play. I think they carried it out immaculately. That makes me see that they are guys who deserve absolutely everything. There are times when we couldn’t do any more”.

Goalkeepers

“Andrés Prieto will play on Sunday. He’ll play the next three games. It wasn’t a match to debut at, he doesn’t deserve to experience that situation. Roberto, on the other hand, deserves to live this situation, he’s a goalkeeper who is among the top three in Spain, I have no doubt. He deserves things to go well, as he’s done all season”.
