José González: “Our foundation is based on solidarity and ambition”

The Málaga CF coach held a press conference in the run-up to #MálagaGirona: “The players are raring to go. What they’re conveying makes me optimistic”.

Solidarity and ambition

“I liked, as an example, that at the last minute Iturra was there on he rebound of Mula’s shot. This shows ambition. I liked the retreat in our area by the 10 players, when the rival went on the counter-attack. These are the main aspects that can serve as a point of support in order to grow: the solidarity at work and the ambition facing the rival”.

Samu García

“He returns with renewed enthusiasm back to his home. I believe he’s a player with experience, and that he’ll be extremely valid to us from now on. An experienced player may be important at this point in the season, which is why he’s here. I think he’ll be effective and is here to contribute to the team. Furthermore, he’s loved by the fans”.

Motivation

“They are highly motivated. I see the attention they have in everything they do, how they get the message, how they are all eager for information and asking questions if they have any doubts, which is very important. They are raring to go. The lads want to grow and go out on the pitch having learned every little detail. What the players are conveying makes me optimistic”.

Winning the three points

“We need to win the three points and get to a position where, in a match, we see the light. Being a three-point shot away from hooking on to salvation, and we’d see things differently. However, at the moment, we’re a little far away. This week, looking at the calendar, the rivals have some tough encounters. As such, scoring the three points tomorrow could be decisive for us. We will count on the fans’ support as we know it’s unconditional. The feeling throughout the dressing room this week has been wholly positive”.

Girona FC

“Their set pieces are very damaging. They play differently to many LaLiga teams, as they play with five at the back or with three in the centre. These guys have a peculiar style, which they’ve been developing over three years in the Second Division, and which is giving them more performance this season in the elite. They know exactly what they’re playing, without pressure. We are playing against a team. These players are aware of exactly what they have to do at any moment. In that sense, they could be above us. We have a necessity, which makes you tighten up and be even more focused. I think we want the game more than them because of the situation we’re in. From there, we don’t care how the opponent plays, we need to be true to ourselves”.
