José González: “For me, in minute 60, we were 2-0 up”

The Malaguista coach analyses #MálagaValencia in the press room: “This may be one of the toughest defeats I’ve experienced. I thought we defeated Valencia today, but we ended up with an unfair loss”.

Match analysis

“I keep in mind that for me, in minute 60, we were 2-0 up. From then on, we can analyse as much as we like, but in the 60th minute, Málaga were winning the team in third place in LaLiga, who didn’t really create any scoring opportunities. We were making the fans feel like we could do it. The team in bottom place was beating a major rival. This may be one of the toughest defeats I’ve experienced. I thought we defeated Valencia today, but we ended up with an unfair loss”.

Disallowed goal

“I didn’t see it, they told me at the end. The linesman didn’t raise the flag, of that I’m sure. I could be wrong in not seeing something that occurred. However, seeing something that hasn’t happened is very difficult, it’s impossible. This is why it hurts even more”.

Raising spirits

“We have to lift our spirits and believe we are going to do something amazing. What I can see clearly is that the team is competing better every time, yet we’re not winning. You know I’m trying to be very respectful of the arbitrations. I kept quiet with Calleri’s goal, did the same with the possible offsides in Eibar, and I did the same today. We were winning 2-0”.

Arbitration

“I know this will be talked about in Málaga tomorrow, and perhaps in Valencia amongst the Levante fans. However, throughout the rest of Spain it won’t sound at all. We are in last place and it has no transcendence. If it were another team, I’m sure it would be different. I don’t think they want to do wrong, I don’t believe anyone has that intention. I find it hard to understand how they see something that didn’t happen. It’s impossible to see something if it doesn’t occur. We don’t deserve this, neither us nor the fans. It’s a very cruel blow”.

Two goals

“I think the referee was wrong in a critical situation. At the end of the day, football is about goals. We can analyse all day, but the game is about scoring goals and not conceding. We scored two goals against the third-placed team. Imagine what it means to us to be 2-0 up against Valencia. It was fantastic. This is why we’re broken. The situation changed radically, as did our spirits and the points”.
