José Alberto: “The fans really spurred the team on”

The Malaguista coach held a press conference following #MálagaRSociedadB. “We continue to grow; hard work, solidarity, effort and commitment bring points,” he said.

Malaguista coach, José Alberto López spoke to the media after the #MálagaRealSociedadB clash.

Firstly, he said the game was “very difficult, and became even more of a challenge with the goal from a set piece.” He added that Málaga “had the match under control, in the second half we had to suffer without the ball. The line of midfielders and forwards did a spectacular job, we closed very well on the inside, and we created a dangerous situation on the counterattack.”

The Asturian coach stressed “making a comeback is very tough in this division,” and praised the fans who he said “were amazing, they really spurred the team on and pushed us forward during the difficult time after conceding the goal.” The support at La Rosaleda shows how “we’re performing very well at home, the stats are there.”

Following the massive effort made during this match, “we need to focus on recovering and take a step forward on Sunday. We have an opportunity to move further up the table, make little steps and secure our first away win of the season.”

In regard to the technical-tactical aspects of play, he said “we had the match under control, in the second half we had to suffer without the ball. The line of midfielders and forwards did a spectacular job, we closed very well on the inside, and we created a dangerous situation on the counterattack.”

In regard to the rival, he added “Real are a team with enormous individual talent and incredible physical power. We minimised their efforts, and in the second half they didn’t have a shot at goal. We piled the pressure on upfront. Their imprecision stemmed from our impeccable work in defence.”

Despite recognising there are “always things to improve,” the coach added that “we have to continue along this same line. We’re a competitive, reliable team. We need to better our performance in away games, we’re lacking efficiency in front of goal. Out of the last seven matches we’ve only lost one.”

Lastly, he talked about tonight’s win. “We leave here with an amazing feeling, as a team. We continue to grow; hard work, solidarity, effort and commitment bring points,” he concluded.
