José Alberto: “Nothing went right”

The Malaguista coach held a press conference following #MálagaAmorebieta. “We were very imprecise and uncomfortable with the ball; today wasn’t our day,” he said.

Malaguista coach, José Alberto López held a #MálagaAmorebieta post-match press conference during which he analysed the defeat.

Firstly, he reviewed the game: “We were very imprecise and uncomfortable with the ball. We knew the game we were going to play, featuring duels and second plays. The two goals stemmed from duels, in isolated actions. Getting the right pace up was a struggle, this is a team that defends far from their goal, and it was difficult for us to generate scoring opportunities. Noting went right today, neither in terms of VAR decisions nor plays. Today was not our day.”

José Alberto also analysed the substitutions and the league debut of homegrown midfielder Dani Lorenzo: “He played with a lot of personality. The substitutions did their bit, brought something to the team, it’s just a shame about the result.”

Lastly, he had a few words for the 18,980 Malaguista fans at La Rosaleda: “It’s hard to send messages of encouragement, but I believe in this team. We have to improve and be self-critical in order to progress. We must thank the fans for their unconditional support and for continuing to believe in us. We’ll fight to the max for every three points. Nothing went our way today. We’ll pick ourselves up, focus on Eibar and clinching our first win away from home.”
