Javi Gracia: “We’re aspiring to everything we can”

Following the win against Betis, the coach says “in the last two away games we scored goals from set pieces which served to win us four points.”

An action worth three points

“It was a very hard-fought, very balanced game.  We started off well, dominating possession in the first few minutes and generating clear goal chances.  Later on, the match became more balanced.  In the second half, we lost possession somewhat, the rival began to advance metres and we were forced to endure more defensive actions near the goal area, something that didn’t happen in the first half.  When it looked as though the match was heading towards a draw, we were capable of securing a highly important win from a set piece, allowing us to reach a number of points that moves us very close to our objective.  We’re very pleased about this.  In the first round we suffered an unfair defeat by this rival, as we deserved more.  Today’s match was very even, and thanks to the set piece, the balance tipped in our favour.

The importance of the strategy

“They are fairly closed games, the teams feel the sensation of necessity, which is often determined by small details.  In the last two away games we scored four goals from set pieces, which served to win us four points.”

Firstly, permanency

“This season, I only looked upwards in the 12th match, as there were no other teams below us, we were at the bottom.  Now we’re close to our objective, and if we’re capable of securing salvation mathematically, we’re aspiring to everything we can.”
