Javi Gracia: “We tried until the end”

The Navarra-born coach held a press conference following the match against Sevilla FC: “We had several chances to corner the rival.”

Good start

“We started off well, conceding few chances to the rival and maintaining pressure upfront.  We didn’t let the fluid start in the attacking half affect us; when the rival gradually starts to overcome the rival lines and eventually finds space at the back of the defence thanks to the speed of the players upfront.  We struggled with this more in the second half, but we performed well overall in the first half, created goal opportunities, didn’t spend a lot of time in our half of the pitch and didn’t suffer too much with rival goal chances.”

Serious error

"We made a serious mistake which led to the first goal in the attacking half, just as we were dominating play.  Conceding a goal made it a tough uphill struggle for us, and the second goal made it very difficult, considering the fact that we deserved more from this game.  With regards to the second goal, we can talk about whether or not it was preceded by a foul by Boka in the attacking half which left us a man down.”

Tried until the end

“In the second half we kept insisting, and the closer we came to levelling up the match, the home side also performed well, but we had several chances to corner the rival.  We made it 2-1 from a set piece and had another opportunity later, but it wasn’t possible.  We tried until the end with great courage, pride and heart, which is what the team and fans demanded.”
