Málaga Club de Fútbol coach, Javi Gracia held a press conference following this afternoon’s match at the Vicente Calderón stadium against Atlético de Madrid.
“We generated chances to make it 2-2. Samu’s yellow card was a strict call. Throughout the first half Atlético focused their attention at the back and felt comfortable. Tiago’s goal from the corner kick is something they do well and often happens. This was how they focused their game play. We didn’t struggle too much during the first half, and were much more daring in the second half. Following our goal we got right back in the game, but Samu getting sent off made things very difficult for us. We’re disappointed as we showed a good dynamic today.”
“You need to do things right at a ground like this in order to gain points. It’s always going to be a tough stadium, the home side put on a consistently strong performance and make the job of the referee very difficult. However we don’t want to blame our defeat on arbitral decisions.”
“Last week’s League break conditioned both teams. It’s no excuse. We gradually recovered our international players and ran into a few problems. We’ve had a very positive run of results, so now we need to pick ourselves up and return to winning ways.”
