It wasn’t to be (0-0)

Málaga CF Femenino drew yesterday against Levante UD ‘B’ on matchday 9 of Group Sur D in the Reto Iberdrola, certifying their relegation to 1ª Nacional femenina.

Javi Ramos’ team, who play at home at Club Atlético Estación de Cártama ‘Antonio Jesús Mayo Cañamero’, kicked off with the coach’s usual 1-3-5-2 formation, with Andrea; María Cortés, Ruth (c), Andrea Ríos; Ale, Buceta, Lorena, Clo, María Ruiz; Arantxa and Claudia in action. Encarni, Edna, Farfán, Futu and Estefa played in the second half.

The match, marked by an intense heat, was a clear example of what the 20/21 season has been for the Blue and White players. A degree of territorial dominance over the rival, but a lack of 'punch' in the final meters and the finishing zone. And nearly always trailing on the scoreboard, however, this time around Andrea prevented Levante taking the lead. María Ruiz, with a great shot, generated the best chance in the first half for MCFF. At half time a goalless draw remained.

The fate of the clash didn’t alter much in the second half, with a Malaga looking for a goal with more heart than head, against a very compact Levante in defence, barely conceding any spaces at the back.

There were numerous interruptions in the final stages of play (including a water break due to the high temperatures), but despite an extremely lengthy stoppage time, and the will of Javi Ramos’ girls, the goal didn’t arrive.

The 0-0 draw leaves Málaga CF without any mathematical option of staying in the category, and the girls are relegated to 1ª Nacional, where Ayala’s Malaguista reserve team has competed in recent years – and who have also been relegated. It wasn’t to be.
