Iris makes the difference in Cártama (1-3)

Málaga CF Femenino lost at home yesterday to CF Joventut Almassora on matchday 7 of Group Sur D in the fight to remain in Reto Iberdrola. Two goals from Iris for the visitors were decisive.

Javi Ramos again opted for a 1-3-4-1-2 formation with Andrea Romero in goal; Sevilla-born María Cortés and Candela as central defenders along with Andrea Ríos; Farfán and Clo on the wings, with Buceta and Lorena in midfield; María Ruiz as playmaker and Edna and Claudia Jiménez upfront.

Soon into play, the match became an uphill struggle, as has been the norm this season. A penalty in the Blue and White area was transformed by Iris (0-1, 10’). The team reacted with order and faith, going level midway through the first half. A fantastic pass from María Ruiz found Claudia who was unmarked in front of the keeper (1-1, 25’). However, before half-time, Paula launched a shot from outside the area to take her team back in front (1-2, 36’).

In the second half, Málaga tried, with more heart than football, without success. In 61’, there was a triple substitution with Marina, Arantxa and Gabi freshening up the attack. Iris stood out on the attack, despite being small in stature, but with great skill. Fifteen minutes before the end, a direct free kick sealed the visitors’ victory (1-3, 75’). Futu and Estefa came on 10 minutes before the end to bring more dynamism to the attack to seek a heroic comeback as happened in Castalia against the same rival, but it wasn’t to be.

A defeat that, with three games to go until the end of the second phase of the season, leaves MCFF with 18 points, five away from safety, marked by Joventut Almassora (who have played one more game than Málaga). The upcoming game, also crucial, is away to UD Aldaia CF (21 points).
