Intense heat during first training session in Greece

Málaga CF’s first training session in the Greek capital was marked by suffocating heat this afternoon, with temperatures at 40 degrees. The less intense session got underway at 7 p.m. (6 p.m. in Spain), following yesterday’s match against Juventus.

Consisting of continuous running, rounds and various ball exercises, the session ended with a practice match on a reduced pitch for the players who weren’t in the starting 11 against Juventus in Salerno (Italy); whilst the others continued with more physical work.

This session was held in Renti, the home of Olympiakos, with magnificent facilities to cater for all categories of the Athens team.  Though close to the city centre, the sports centre is a sufficient distance away from the hustle and bustle of Athens – with three football pitches, indoor pool, physio centre, restaurant, gym and state of the art training facilities.  It’s also noted that journalists and fans aren’t allowed in the centre.  It’s possible to see the Parthenon from Renti, reigning over Athens.

Spanish footballer, David Fuster from Olympiakos made an appearance at this evening’s training session, to welcome the Blue and Whites.  He spent time chatting to Willy Caballero, who he played with in Elche, as well as the coaching team, as when he was with Villareal B, Manuel Pellegrini, Rubén Cousillas and José Cabello coached the first team.  Another Spanish footballer, Javier Peral, plays for Olympiakos.

Málaga is back in training tomorrow at the same place, beginning at 7 p.m. (6 p.m. in Spain) ahead of their encounter with Olympiakos on Tuesday.
