Ideye: “I cannot wait to face this challenge”

Brown Ideye was presented this afternoon at La Rosaleda’s press room. “I want to get on top form quickly to help the team with goals”, he states.

The centre forward, who will wear the number ‘12’ Blue and White jersey, was accompanied during his presentation by Mario Husillos. “We’ve had reports about him for some time, and I also had sufficient information about his time at Olympiacos, where he was a great figure and people still hold him in high esteem. Amongst the options there were for the front line, I spoke to the coach, and automatically when I saw the name Brown Ideye, I said ‘this one Mario’. The situation hasn’t been easy, but the final point is that Brown is here. We are thrilled he’s here, expectations are high, and I’m thankful he’s in Málaga”, affirms the Club’s sports director, who says of the Nigerian striker: “The ones who will get us out of this situation are here now, looking at the standings it’s obvious that we’re lacking in goals; we believe that a player who has Brown’s characteristics, someone who has always scored goals, is hard-working, with mobility and physical presence, has to help us increase our goal average. Physical fitness? He did a test with our fitness trainers and he beat the clock; on a physical level he’s looked after himself in regard to his weight, and he’s ready to compete. His physical fitness is spectacular”.

Arrival in Málaga

“I’m grateful to be part of this team. I know it’s been difficult, but I’m very happy to be here. I want to look forward and do my best to help the team in every way I can (…) I knew the team’s situation before coming here. It’s a challenge in my career, I’ve always loved challenges, and although I know we’re at the bottom of the table, I’m a goal-scorer and I’m here to help the team”.

Goal-scorer

“I’ve always scored goals with every team I’ve played at, also provided assists and I don’t stop running during matches. I also hope I never stop scoring goals, I’ve not played for four months, but for me that’s not an excuse. I want to get on top form quickly to help the team with goals (…) I’m ready, today is my second day in training, and now it’s the coach’s decision if he thinks I’m ready to be in the starting line-up. I’m good and ready to play”.

Adapting

“I’m in one of the best leagues in the world. I’m delighted as it’s one of the things I wanted, to be where the best players are. I will try and show my best level and I cannot wait to start facing those challenges. The language of football is universal, we’ll understand each other, I think I’ll adapt well to the language”.

Team and personal situation

“I spoke to my agent and my wife and we decided to come here. We knew about the Málaga situation, being in last place. There’s a long way to go yet, that’s not going to be our final position, everything can change, and it will change. I talked to people from Olympiacos and they said that Málaga was a great Club, which is why I decided to come here (…). It’s difficult to explain, you may not believe it, but I’ve not slept for days surrounded by my trusted people (…) These are my statistics, I’ve always scored goals and will try to do my job as best I can from here until the end of the season. I’m not setting a number of goals (…) I really miss playing football and doing what I think I do best. I don’t want to think about the World Cup. First Málaga, and then I’ll think about the World Cup”.
