“I say right now that we have to pay 3% interest”

José María Muñoz believes it’s necessary to change the current football model and values the ‘LaLiga impulse’ agreement as a step forward.

Málaga Club de Fútbol’s judicial administrator addressed the characteristics of the agreement with CVC during his press conference, emphasising that it’s more than an agreement, it’s an alliance. “LaLiga is not just selling, it’s acquiring an alliance with an investment fund that is powerful enough to change the model,” said José María. He went on to say that "LaLiga must have its own platform" and that "it cannot continue as it is", justifying the decision as a move forward.

The fund is 2,200 million euros and LaLiga lends the money to the clubs. They then must return it so that, subsequently, LaLiga can give it back through audiovisual rights. “I say right now that we have to pay 3% interest,” José María said bluntly, supporting the position on the increase in future audiovisual rights. "I'd sign it tomorrow," he insisted.

For the benefit of the Malaguista entity, the judicial administrator explained the need to make "a firm commitment to digitisation". In addition, his position in the vote has been analysed together with his work group, as well as the rest of the professional teams that voted in favour of the agreement. “There were 38 teams that voted in favour without any doubt,” José María stated.

"The commitment is focused on digitisation and professionalisation," he said in relation to the purpose of the agreement. Following this model, the construction of the sports city is the main foundation of the investment, which is crucial for the Malaguista youth ranks. "The 70% allocated to infrastructure guarantees that the Academy will be constructed," said the judicial administrator who, in addition, set three years as the estimated time for completion, depending on how the funds are obtained.

Furthermore, the international projection is one of the main points stressed by José María. “Málaga CF has an administrative concession for the land and there’s a list of conditions. The Club will not be able to lease the land, but it will be able to make an authorisation to obtain revenue. There won’t be any problem with the administrative concession that currently exists. The sports city will not be ceded to be exploited, under any circumstances. It’s not allowed,” he said about the real possibility of receiving economic benefits in the future.

Regarding the financial debt and salary cap of the Malaguista squad, José María declared that “it would not make sense to create a bubble in the market, spend the salary limit and have to pay it back, it would be like reaching a dead end”. It's not a gift, we don't have to go crazy," he said. Moreover, it’s a percentage that can be received for three years but must be returned as from the fourth.

Lastly, the judicial administrator said that the four departments within the Malaguista entity are working on a development plan in order to increase internal professionalism and take advantage of the agreement in the most satisfactory way possible for Málaga CF.
