Hard-fought comeback to stay in the fight (2-1)

Atlético Malagueño defeated Alhaurín de la Torre CF, at the Federación Malagueña de Fútbol, on matchday 26 of Tercera RFEF Group IX. Jarauta put the visitors in front, whilst Olmo and Juanmita turned the score around.

This midweek match was reassigned due to the clash previously being postponed because of Covid cases detected on the Blue and White squad. Funes and Bravo selected the following starting-11: Carlos López; Bilal, Murillo ©, Mati, Víctor Olmo; Álex Rico, Alberto García, Dani Lorenzo; Larrubia, Issa Fomba and Loren.

On the bench was new Malaguista signing Javi Parada, a left-back from Extremadura UD who debuted in 88' in place of Dani Lorenzo. First team coach, Natxo González was at the ground for this game.

Malagueño got off to a pacy start. David Larrubia, with a great shot that collided with the crossbar, could have scored in 12’. Little by little, Paco Flores’ side took the game where they wanted, with veteran former Malaguista Apoño heading up operations in midfield. The visitors, who were very organised, barely conceded any chances to Malagueño who reached half-time with a goalless draw.

In the second half, a Bilal cross shot from the right grazed the post in 51’. Shortly afterwards, from a corner, Jarauta headed the ball into the back of the net (0-1, 59’). Juanmita, one of Funes’ substitutions in the second half, had the equaliser in the bag in 68’, but came up against a superb Barea save.

The 1-1 arrived in 71’ thanks to Víctor Olmo who made the most of the keeper’s clearance, using his bad leg to take the game level. Olmo fell inside the area minutes later in a move that looked like a foul, but a penalty wasn’t awarded.

Malagueño didn’t lose faith and fought until the end. The reward came in the form of a very well-deserved goal just before the 90th minute. Dani Lorenzo’s pass from the left found the heart of the area and allowed Juanmita to score at point-blank range and secure victory (2-1, 89’).

In the final stretch of the competition, Atlético Malagueño claimed three crucial points to continue in the fight for promotion playoffs to Segunda RFEF. Vamos, Malagueño!
