The Malaguista coach spoke to the media the day before the first league game at home: “It’s going to be a great match, the fans will support the team.”
Pablo Guede held a press conference after this morning’s training session, a day before the LaLiga SmartBank 22/23 debut at La Rosaleda. The duel will see the Blue and Whites face UD Las Palmas. The coach said of the rival: “We’re aware we’re up against a great team, with a very clear idea of what they’re playing for. I think they’re a strong team, which is why they reached the play-offs last year. They have the same coach and a foundation that was seen in the first match. This is a team that likes to maintain possession and do damage on the counter-attack. We’re going to try and offset that gameplay,” he explained.
The team’s image on the first matchday was not what MCF was looking for. However, this hasn’t undermined the morale within the locker room: “This is a process. If we want the team to play well and to win on the first day... that can happen, but we lost. If we’d drawn or won we’d have talked about something else, but it wouldn’t change how poorly we performed. The same argument varies if we win or lose, which is wrong,” he said.
Patience is key to achieving objectives, according to the coach: “Psychologically this is deceiving at the moment. We’ve only played one game. This is a process. How many training sessions have we had with the entire defence? A lot of the time we lose perspective. Málaga CF have made some great signings (paraphrased), but when did they arrive? This is a process. I don't want it to sound like I'm buying time. If you don't win, you leave, but the reality is very clear to me. Without patience you can’t achieve anything. Patience is not about doing nothing, it’s about solving problems. That's what processes are for. With victories we would all be happier, of course we would, but football is football. We have to follow our path, our process and build the team we want,” he commented.
Guede knows the Blue and White fans well and knows what atmosphere he expects tomorrow: “It’s going to be a great match, the fans will support the team, I’m very clear on that,” he concluded.
