Gracia: “Today we took a firm step, full of optimism”

The coach analyses the 1-2 victory against Rayo as “a step forward. It’s only a step, but it’s a big one, firm and full of optimism and ambition.”

Better second half

“The rival took an early lead and scoring gives you confidence.  Our team needed results in order to give us the assurance to do things right.  We were better in the second half, the rival lost their spirit and ours was growing.  The second half was slightly more open with occasions for both sides.  We’re happy we scored two goals by our strikers.  We also avoided defeat for our third consecutive League match.  At this time these figures make us optimistic.”

The changes

“With Recio we were looking to have a midfielder who could focus on containment, and he gave us a fresh approach and covered the area well.  With regards to Charles, he gave us what we wanted: the possibility to score and move Nordin Amrabat more to the wing in the search for more depth and a little more risk.”

Happiness

“I think right now the coach’s happiness is relative.  The most important thing is the team’s happiness and that of the fans, who saw us achieve a great result away from home.  Today we took a step forward.  It’s only a step, but it’s a big one, firm and full of optimism and ambition.”
