Goitia: “Málaga influenced me on a personal level”

Iñaki Goitia, former Málaga CF and CD Mirandés goalkeeper, features on the Club’s official website in the hours leading up to tonight’s Cup match at La Rosaleda: “I have a very special affection for Málaga.”

The Basque Country-born player, a captain during his MCF days, and with whom he achieved the final climb to the Spanish footballing elite, has great memories of his time with the Blue and Whites: “Málaga influenced me on a personal and professional level.  I matured a lot here and I have a very special affection for the Club,” says Goitia, who also fondly remembers his time with Mirandés: “It is a humble club that deserves to be in the Second Division.  I have some wonderful memories.”

Goitia, resident in Málaga following his retirement from football, currently works with CD Lauro: “We now enjoy more time with the family and we’re all very happy in Málaga.  It’s exciting being at Lauro, my work as second coach to a ‘pre-benjamín’ team is combined with being goalkeeping coach to an under-11s category.”

“Málaga was the first place I went to after leaving Bilbao.  I met some amazing people, but above all I saw the ‘Malaguista’ feeling evolve, as when I first arrived here there were many Madrid or Barcelona fans, and little by little the Málaga feeling grew,” comments Iñaki, who shared a dressing room with Málaga CF’s new sports director, Francesc Arnau.  “Those who know him will know he’s always proved himself to be a serious, professional man.  He gives everything for the cause, hence the confidence placed in him.”

Lastly, Iñaki Goitia predicts the score in tonight’s match between his two former teams: “I think it’ll be a 2-0 win for Málaga.”
