Going for the first Malaguista gold

The most important tournament in Africa, at national team level, gets underway tomorrow, with two Málaga CF players taking part hoping to win the title: Morocco’s Munir and N’Diaye from Senegal.

From this Friday 21st June until 19th July, Egypt will host the 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations. The CAN 2019 will feature the Blue and White colours as goalkeeper, Munir Mohand and midfielder, Alfred N’Diaye form part of the Morocco and Senegal teams respectively. Both will debut with their national teams on Sunday.

In the previous Africa Cup, held in January 2017, there was also double Málaga CF representation, with the presence of En-Nesyri (Morocco) and Bakary Koné (Burkina Faso), the latter claiming a well-deserved third place with Burkina Faso. Back in 2010, Victor Obina who used to play for the Club, won the bronze medal with Nigeria.

In 2015, homegrown goalkeeper, Aitor Embela with Equatorial Guinea completed the quota of MCF players who have taken part in the Africa Cup.

In regard to the extinct CD Málaga, the legendary Cyril Makanaky with Cameroon brought Malaguista colour to the competition back in 1992, reaching a notable fourth place.
