Gámez: “We’re on the way to doing something great”

Málaga CF right back, Jesús Gámez, spoke in a press conference today, Thursday, in La Rosaleda’s press room.

Gámez’s statements

Málaga-Sevilla
“It’s an important match, they’re a direct rival and we have a great opportunity to push ourselves ahead of them and climb the table to be nearer to our objective.  We’re full of strength and excitement about finishing with this patch; you can always have ups and downs and now’s the time to start moving up.”

Personal
“Each match is decided by the manager, I work to be picked each game and he who decides that is the boss.  I’ve played in quite a few matches, I’ve had an injury; I know that up until now my level hasn’t been at its maximum and I can give much more and we’re on that.”

Season assessment
“If everything happened as we would have like, we would be first.  This is a league and there are other teams who are very competitive and you need to fight, we’re still on the way to doing something great.  Every time you go to a stadium you’re free to do want you want and I don’t think I will ever understand the ‘whistles’ because you’ve got to support the team through the good and bad, and always support the players and the coach.  If in other times we’ve managed to get of a patch like this, this is not going to be any different.  If the objective were salvation then we would be sorted, but things have changed and we’re more ambitious.  There’s time to react and I prefer to have the challenge of fighting up rather than fighting down.  We’re confident in ourselves.  Everyone can give more, each one giving it their all, there’s a good group and sooner or later that’ll be shown on the pitch.  Confidence is key.”

Derby and rivalry
“Above all, with Sevilla, we’ve got to take care on the wings, they look for lots of passes and they have some great forwards.  Rivalry?  The message is always the same: what happens on the pitch has to be about sport and even with the rivalries that exist we have to treat them like any other team, we hope that there’ll be no problems. It’s a derby and that must mean that some will end up happy, and others sad, but in terms of sport and nothing else.”
