Funes: “We have the same confidence; we know what we’re capable of”
The Málaga CF coach spoke after the draw against UD Almería at La Rosaleda (0-0). “It's in our hands; we are just one goal away. There are many people who know what the 122nd minute means,” he said.
Very evenly matched first leg
“We were expecting more goals. Defensively, they did a very good job. Honestly, we're very pleased. We are just one goal away from playing in the First Division. Who would have told us that those of us who once played in a playoff against Almería B would be just one goal away from playing in the First Division?”
Rival’s approach
“They tried to make sure nothing happened. They are a team with a tremendous amount of talent, and I don't think they'll approach the next match the way they did today. It will be much more open. We'll probably see a different game, as happened against Castellón. Everything will be quicker, with a higher tempo. It's a completely different match. Given the quality of their squad, we'll experience different situations. We need to prepare for that scenario, which is very exciting. Now it's about recovering well. We'll have more recovery time during the week and then see how we approach the game there, knowing it won't be easy.”
Fully committed fans
“The support has been unbelievable. To be given an opportunity like this is something special, and I don't think we've fully taken it in yet. In time, we'll look back on these moments and be amazed by what we've experienced. The fans were phenomenal today. None of this would be possible without them, and we're incredibly grateful for all the support they've shown us.”
Everything on the line in Almería
“We need a lot of character and personality. When you play away from home, many factors can make things more difficult. One important thing is that we've become used to winning away from home. In fact, over the last two months, we've probably picked up more points away than at home. I'm confident. We've gone toe-to-toe with a team like Almería, and that fills us with pride. We know it's not enough yet, we still need one goal, but being just one goal away is an opportunity life has given us.
The team believes
“It’s in our hands, so how could we not be confident? We see them every day, how could we not be excited and motivated if we’re just one goal away? One action from us could take us to the First Division. Many people know what the 122nd minute means. We go into it with joy; where there’s one, there can be another. I believe things will turn out well.”
An exciting and challenging path
“I have the same confidence, no more and no less. Reaching the First Division is not a walk in the park, it’s difficult, everything has its level of difficulty. We know what they are capable of. We’ve seen them do difficult things. It seems like they wait for everything to become exciting in order to do it. It’s them who transmit confidence to us.”
