Press conference

Escassi: “We’re going to have to play a very serious game”

One of the team captains held a press conference today at La Rosaleda, two days before the match against Real Sociedad B. “The reserve teams run a lot and with the ball have the ability to create opportunities,” he said.

Talking about the difference in results in home and away games, “at home we’re performing well and are very strong. Away from home it’s more of a struggle. We have to try and maintain that consistency, both at home and away,” he said.

“We train to the max every week, the team always give their all. We’re very focused and eager, but we’ve struggled to get into a few games recently. It’s something we need to improve on as being consistent is the basis of everything,” he added about the performance away from home.

Escassi sees himself as very “self-critical, I like to get stuck in, always improve and in away games I need to take a step forward and improve my level. At home I feel pretty good, it’s more of a challenge away from home, but I always try to keep up my performance.”

Another hot topic is the continuous fouls on Kevin. “He’s a street player, a natural dribbler, with a superb one-on-one ability. Teams are getting to know him now and many want to stop him. He sustained an ankle injury since Huesca. There the player’s first tackle went to the ankle and the referees have to protect him,” he said.

A regular in the starting-11, he feels “comfortable, like everyone. Genaro and I are very similar, with Ramón and ‘Joza’ we’re more creative. That’s why when we both play – Genaro and I – we’re a tough team, and the construction phase is a little more of a struggle.”

“The key is the players, we have to take a step forward. We must be more responsible, self-critical and improve away from home. Starting with me, we all need to be more demanding of ourselves,” says Alberto Escassi, who is happy at MCF. “I’m very pleased with the Club. Apart from being a Malagueño I’m a Malaguista. It was a dream for me to come here and I’ll always be grateful.”

Finally, about Sanse, he said: “The reserve teams are made up of young boys who run a lot and with the ball have the ability to create opportunities. We’re going to have to play a very serious game against a team that will make things very difficult for us.”
