Escassi: “We have to believe and stay united”

The team captain spoke to the media in the press room. “We can’t let more matches go by, this Monday we need to fight to the death against Cartagena and keep the three points at La Rosaleda no matter what,” he said.

One of the Malaguista first team captains, Alberto Escassi held a press conference this Thursday at the ‘Juan Cortés’ press room at La Rosaleda.

Firstly, he gave an analysis of the team’s current situation. “The reality is what it is, we’re in a delicate situation. Let no one be in doubt, we’re the first ones who want to win, we train like animals so that things go well in matches. However, things haven’t gone our way, but there are green shoots. We’re in the midst of a very negative dynamic and by sticking together we can move forward. We’re in a difficult situation that Málaga doesn’t deserve to be in,” he said.

Escassi conveyed his confidence in getting out of this poor dynamic, whilst assessing the importance of #MálagaCartagena. “We will get out of this situation one hundred percent. I can see the team we are and I'm sure we'll move forward. We can’t let more matches go by, this Monday we need to fight to the death against Cartagena and keep the three points at La Rosaleda no matter what,” he stated.

The Malaguista captain acknowledges that “although we’re looking at the results of the teams below us, we rely on ourselves. We can’t let more games go by, we have to win them all. The rivals have tough games coming up this weekend. I don't like saying it's a final as there are 14 games left, but it is very important in order to have peace of mind in the last stretch of the league”, he added.

To the fans, he is very clear that the key is to “believe and stay united. Our fans must continue to believe in us, we know how angry they are. I know the situation they’re going through, and for that I apologise. Our fans are incredible, and they don’t deserve to be in this situation. I ask them to keep believing in the team, there are 42 points left in play. By sticking together, you see the real teams. With these two factors, we’ll move forward and out of the situation we’re currently in,” he explained.

Lastly, as a veteran on the team, he assumes an important role in reversing the current situation. “I feel a lot of responsibility, due to my age, my 12 years of experience in the Second Division and helping the younger players. Being from here, I feel responsible for the Malaguista Family, it’s an honour to be able to lead Málaga and take on this role,” he said.
