Double Malaguista win in IberCup in Cascais

The MCF Academy’s Primera Infantil and Segunda Alevín teams won the prestigious international tournament held in Portugal over Easter, beating Goiás EC and Sporting CP, respectively.

Success for the Blue and Whites at the 2023 IberCup in Cascais over Easter. The MCF Academy’s Primera Infantil and Segunda Alevín teams were proclaimed champions of one of the most outstanding international tournaments in grassroots football.

Both Malaguista teams put on a superb performance in Portugal, winning all their matches in the championship and being far superior to their rivals. The tournament ran from Wednesday to Saturday in the town of Cascais.

In the group stage, Kiko Torrente’s Primera Infantil defeated local side, SC Braga (3-2); Polish outfit, Comp Coaching Club (2 - 0); and CD Cova da Piedade from Portugal (1 - 0). In the round of 16 they eliminated a team from the United States (5-1); in the quarter-finals they beat French side, Olympique de Lyon (4-0); in the semi-finals they defeated Sporting Clube de Portugal (4-0); and in the final beat Brazilian Goiás EC (1-0).

Meanwhile, Xavi González’s Seguna Infantil secured victories against local team, FC Porto (3-1); CD Cova da Piedade (4 - 2); and a team from Brazil (6 - 0) in the first round. In the round of 16 they beat Brazilian Adejota (6-0); SB Braga in the quarter-finals (5 - 0); Os Belenenses (4 – 1) in the semis; and Sporting CP in the final (3 - 0).
