Dani Lorenzo: “The Cup serves to bring people together and compete"

The Malaguista midfielder spoke to the media after the first round of the Cup, in which he scored the decisive shot in the penalty shootout. “We’re happy as it was a difficult ground, where the rival had a long unbeaten streak,” he said.

Happy with the win

We’re happy as it was a difficult ground, where the rival had a long unbeaten streak, and we knew we’d have to compete. For my part, I’m happy to add minutes. It's 120 minutes in the legs to get the rhythm of the game and to get back to the sensations that, personally, I needed.”

Decisive penalty

“I was clear about where I was going to shoot. That place has always given me good results and there is no need to change what works.”

Very difficult game

“This match had a bit of everything. A rival that competed very well, a tough opponent. We had to read the moments of the game, when it was our turn to have the ball, and when it was our turn to suffer. We lacked a goal to seal a win in the 90 or 120 minutes, but we performed well.”

Close-knit Malaguista group

“Those who don’t play as much see it as an opportunity to join the ship and allow the coach to have more people prepared, as this is a very long competition, and we want to achieve great things. We want to take each match at a time and compete in the best way we can. The Cup serves to bring people together and compete, it must be seen as something positive.”
