Interview
Dani Barrio: “We have a lot of room for improvement”

The goalkeeper from Asturias arrived from CD Numancia and has been in the starting-11 in the first five matches in LaLiga SmartBank. His experience and enthusiasm are at the service of the Blue and White goal.

Arrival at Málaga

“It was an unusual summer, like the whole of 2020. Following relegation with Numancia I said from the outset that as soon as the Málaga option arose, I had no doubt. It is a Club that is currently asleep but will soon wake up. In time we’ll see that this has been the best option and it will once again be a very big Club”.

Adapting

“I’ve adapted very well, despite arriving later during the preseason and having only a few weeks before the league started. However, things are going well, I’m getting in shape and trying to be at my best to help the team”.

In development

“We’re in a process of development, getting to know one another, adapting to the coach’s system, but getting points in the pot is what matters. This is a very long road of 42 matches, but I think that little by little we’ll start to see the team’s potential and we have a lot of room for improvement”.

Objectives

“I’ve started playing, I’m happy and trying my best to improve my performance every day and in every training session. That’s what we’re here for, to train and be available to the coach, with maximum ambition to help the team. I’m at a very good level, but there’s a healthy competition between the three – goalkeepers – which will make our performance improve for the good of the team”.

“At team level we’re in a development phase, but this is such a long competition. I have the experience from last year of ending the first round in playoff positions and then being relegated. We need to keep a cool head and see where we are in March and what we’ll be fighting for, which is the most important. Staying calm, working hard and earning points”.
