Cuevas de San Marcos, present during FC Cartagena’s visit

Málaga CF’s commitment to the towns of the Costa del Sol is evident once again this week. On this occasion, artist José Luis Puche dazzles us with a magnificent piece featuring the Museo del Juguete and Mundo de Cuevas de San Marcos.

Málaga CF will be in action on matchday 14 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION against FC Cartagena on Saturday 9th November at 21:00. La Rosaleda will host this exciting match, where the picturesque town of Cuevas de San Marcos will be featured on the match poster design and on the Blue and White captain's armband.

Cuevas de San Marcos, nestled at the foot of the imposing Sierra del Camorro and beside the serene Iznájar Reservoir, is a natural haven where the charm of Málaga meets the tranquility of its landscapes. This gem of the Northeastern Region of Málaga, strategically connected to Granada, Córdoba, and Sevilla, unfolds amidst olive groves, holm oaks, and cereal fields, offering a setting that invites leisurely strolls, adventure, and a true escape into nature that can be felt and breathed with every step.

The municipality is steeped in history, marked by the presence of various civilizations that made its land a stage for legends and battles. From the first inhabitants of the Cueva de Belda in prehistoric times to the strategic fortress of Medina Belda during the Muslim era, its mountains have witnessed both coexistence and conflict among cultures. After gaining independence in 1806 and selecting Saint Mark as its patron, the town adopted its current name, reflecting the deep roots and devotion of its residents.

The town is home to a collection of unique spots that make it an unforgettable destination to explore and enjoy. The Church of Saint Mark the Evangelist, with its impressive late Baroque and Neoclassical style, stands as the most iconic symbol, inviting admiration since its construction in the 17th century. In the Plaza de la Constitución, the lively energy of local life can be felt, with the modern fountain becoming a celebratory scene following football victories. Additionally, Spain's first Toy and World Museum offers a magical corner where children's dreams come to life, and adults’ memories shine brightly.

Nature reveals its beauty in Cuevas de San Marcos, where the Cueva de Belda, a keeper of legends, joins the splendour of the Iznájar Reservoir. This vast lake, the largest in Andalucía, connects Córdoba, Málaga, and Granada, creating a truly unique and unforgettable landscape.

It could be said that the cuisine of a place reflects its culture, way of life, and above all, its history. This charming town, with its long culinary tradition, offers a variety of dishes such as the hornazo of San Marcos, purple carrot picadillo, Carnival stuffing, and sobrehusa. In terms of desserts, treats like wine donuts, Easter tortillas, and borrachuelos provide a deliciously sweet finish.

In the town, festivities reflect the warmth and traditions that unite its inhabitants. Jueves de Compadres and Jueves de Comadres offer a special opportunity for family and friends to gather around the table, sharing a delicious snack of churros with chocolate. Each October, the Rosario de la Aurora transforms the early mornings with melodies that have echoed since 1667, bringing generations together in a shared act of faith. And in December, the celebration of Las Candelas lights up the nights with bonfires that symbolise renewal and fraternity.

For the design of our captain’s armband, as well as the match poster for the game against FC Cartagena, José Luis Puche expresses his talent through a captivating and unique perspective. With his usual mastery, the artist has created a piece that evokes the magic of the Toy Museum. On the armband, the cabra de arrastre, the oldest toy in the world, made of wood in 1790, takes centre stage. This iconic piece not only celebrates the history of play but also invites us to relive the innocence of childhood.
