“It's a significant setback; Estepona deserved to win”

Sergio Pellicer addressed the media after the #EsteponaMálaga match. “The boys gave their all, but I have to apologise for the result,” he stated.

Analysis of the Cup defeat
“I want to congratulate Estepona. They were better and never lost their composure during the match. We weren’t comfortable at all. For me, it felt like a league match. This is the amateur spirit; the Cup has these things. It's a significant setback for us. We need to be at our best at all times, but the boys gave it their all, and I apologise for the result.
Estepona deserved to win.”

Humility to improve
“It wasn’t a matter of attitude. It was more about situations in a match that got a bit chaotic. I hope this setback serves as a lesson for improvement. Now we have a long week ahead with no match on Monday, so we need to work with humility.”

Faith and fitness
“Matches like these are very complicated when mistakes are made. Perhaps there was a bit of a lack of activation, we knew we weren’t at our best, and they were better in that aspect. It’s about those second plays, that faith, and at the physical level, the mind plays a huge role. With the equaliser, they saw that they could win.”

Self-critical
“I’m the one who has failed. For me, this is a significant blow. I believe we need to compete in the Cup and aim for the highest. It’s a learning experience, if we don’t fight together and nobody thinks outside of our objective, we can progress with humility and achieve our best version.”

Focused on Cartagena
“To the fans, I want to apologise. This is the first time this has happened to me in the Cup, and it’s normal for them to be angry. But next Saturday against Cartagena, we will be with our supporters. I prefer to bring people together than to break bottles and glass.”

Feeling and responsibility
“We need to show affection to the players because coaches come and go, but they are the ones who stay. We must accept this, communicate internally, and always strive for maximum performance because we have many people behind us with the feelings we’ve generated.”
