Málaga CF will travel to El Sardinero to play matchday 25 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION against Real Racing Club. This exciting game will take place on Saturday 1st February at 21:00, with Cuevas Bajas featured in the match poster design and on the captain's armband.
Cuevas Bajas is located in the northeast of Málaga, nestled between the Campiña de Córdoba and the olive groves that frame its horizon. Located on the banks of the Genil River and beneath the watchful eye of the Cerro de La Cruz, life in this charming town flows at the relaxed pace of authenticity.
Cuevas Bajas holds a rich history dating back to the Paleolithic era, with traces of hunters and fishermen in its lands. During Roman times, the Antonine Way passed through its territory, leaving behind baths, mosaics, and villa remains that reflect its agricultural prosperity. In the Middle Ages, it was part of the Cuevas de Belda, witnessing the Christian conquest and the subsequent land redistribution. Its identity began to take shape in the 18th century, eventually achieving independence from Antequera in 1819.
Cuevas Bajas is a place that blossoms in spring, when the valley of the Genil River is filled with vibrant greens and lively colours. The Church of San Juan, a 17th-century treasure, captivates with its simple yet elegant architecture. Strolling along Calle Real and Plaza de la Reja, you’ll discover gems like the Casa de los Cristales and the Casa de Felipe Quintana, as well as the former Juan González inn, a spot that holds the legends of 19th-century bandits.
The cuisine of the municipality is defined by the simplicity and richness of its local products. The zanahoria morá, exclusive to the area, is the perfect complement to migas, a traditional dish enjoyed with grapes, olives, and other fresh produce from the fields. On warm days, porra fría refreshes the palate with its intense flavour of tomato and ham. Sweets like roscos de vino and tortas de aceite are essential, and to finish, resoli, a homemade drink made from anise and coffee, provides the perfect touch.
If you love embracing the small traditions that make life more special, this town has festivals that will steal your heart. On 2nd February, La Candelaria transforms into a magical night, with bonfires, rag dolls, and laughter around the fire. The following day, San Blas brings the sweet tradition of giving bread rings tied with ribbons, a custom that unites the community. And in December, on the first Sunday, it’s time for the Día de la Zanahoria Morá, a celebration full of authentic flavours, with migas, sausages, wine, and resoli, allowing you to savour every moment.
The poster for the upcoming match against Real Racing Club and the captain’s armband are true works of art created by the talented José Luis Puche, who has uniquely captured the essence of Málaga’s municipalities. On this occasion, his artwork takes us directly to La Casona de Santa Ana, the most distinguished building in the village, with strong influences from the Baroque and Renaissance periods.
