Contreras: “I’m sure the Federación will be full to capacity”

The Málaga CF Femenino coach advocates turning the page after #BarcelonaMálaga and focusing on the crucial match against Sporting de Huelva.

#BarcelonaMálaga

“In the first half we stood up to the rival, yet in the second things ran away from us. I’m leaving with the sensation that we stood up to them but paid for the mistakes. I remain with what Mariona said, Barça will win the Champions League and we’ll stay up. Although there were no opportunities, Málaga performed well in the first half, we came to do our job. Seven months ago, we were competing in the Second Division, and now those same players are in the elite and playing against Barça. I just said in the dressing room, I’d prefer to concede six goals against Barça here than play against Polilla and score 10”.

Mistakes

“We’re paying too high a price for our mistakes. In the first goal we arrived too late on the wing, there was a doubt, we didn’t close well with the central and they caught us. Then they launched two dead balls into the back of the net, whereas another team may have sent them out”.

United group

“I’m not happy, but I have superb players who leave their souls on the pitch and who have won the affection and respect of the city of Málaga. There’s no other dressing room, after conceding six goals, who would be looking forward, determined to defeat Huelva next Sunday”.

Confidence

“I have absolute faith we’ll remain in the category. The difference today was the goals, particularly the second half. I would have said we could draw here, but it’s incredibly difficult to claim points from this ground”.

Fans

“We have the best fans in the First Division. Few clubs are capable of attracting coachloads of fans to support their team. We conceded five goals in Sevilla and the fans were right behind us. Then Barça scored six against us, but I bet that on Sunday the Federación will be full to capacity. Only our fans could do this. I don’t have to say anything to them, they’re the best. They know this, and we’re going to stay in this division”.

Respect

“I ask for the utmost respect for all. Although you and Atleti are playing for a lot, there are other teams who aren’t playing for anything. There is a lot of hard work, and many people involved with this”.
