Condolences for the death of Serrano Carvajal

Málaga CF mourns the passing of Rafael Serrano Carvajal, the historic president of CD Málaga during the golden age in the 70s. Rest in peace.

Rafael Serrano Carvajal passed away yesterday in Málaga at the age of 82. During his time as president, between 1971 and 1975, Club Deportivo Málaga reached its most successful sporting levels in what is known as the Blue and Whites' Quinquennium of Gold.

During his time as president of Málaga, with Sebastián Humberto Viberti as the most recognisable icon, the team achieved its best historical classification in the First Division (7th place in the 73/74 campaign) and in the Spanish Cup (semi-finals in the 72/73 season), in addition to the record of remaining in the elite in terms of consecutive campaigns (1970-75).

“He was a very important president in our history,” said Francisco Martín Aguilar, Málaga CF’s Protocol and Institutional Relations adviser. Under the mandate of Serrano Carvajal, the "Málaga, la Bombonera" anthem and the first electronic scoreboard at La Rosaleda were unveiled in the 13th Costa del Sol Cup held in 1973.

“Many beautiful things were experienced with him. He was very generous with the team and the coaching staff, there was a great unity, and he celebrated the team's successes the most. He was great,” Martín Aguilar added.

The Club sends deepest condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace, Don Rafael.
