Cifuentes: “Friendship is set aside when the referee blows the whistle”

The Blue and White right back, who belonged to Girona FC, speaks to MCFTV in the run-up to #MálagaGirona. “I have some wonderful memories from my time there”, said Cifu.

Back to one of his former homes

“Going back to Girona is always special to me. I have great memories of both the city and the people, as well as my teammates. It’s a pleasure to go back there”.

2014/15

“The first year as a professional in the category I gave my all, as collectively speaking it was a good year to remember. From a personal point of view, I played almost all the full matches and was nominated for the LaLiga awards”.

First Division promotion

“I had the opportunity to return two years later, we were able to achieve an historic ascent for the first time in Girona. I have some wonderful memories from my time there, it’s a very special place for me”.

Rivals and friends

“Girona has maintained a pretty large block of players. I still have teammates and friends from those times in Girona. Also, people from the Club and the employees, who are very important to the players. I’m looking forward to seeing them again and giving them a hug (…) Everyone treated me very well and I can’t wait to see them. However, friendship is set aside when the referee blows the whistle and we’re going for the three points from Montilivi”.

Personal

“It’s important for me to start like this, on a good footing. On a personal level I felt great (against UD Las Palmas) and hope to continue along the same line during the season”.

Malaguista fans

“It’s amazing how the fans truly get behind the team, it’s an honour for us to count on them. We’re all going hand in hand and we need them for a year that we hope will be exciting”.
