CE Seagull de Badalona named as first Copa de la Reina 21/22 rival

Málaga CF Femenino will face this rival from Catalonia in the first round of the knockout tournament this season, between Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th October at Campo del Roma Luz.

Málaga CF Femenino will be up against CE Seagull de Badalona in the first round of the Copa de la Reina 21/22, between Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th October – yet to be confirmed – at Campo del Roma Luz.

Ayala’s girls found out their rival, ‘Las Gaviotas’ from Badalona, in the draw held this Friday at 13:00 at the Luis Aragonés room at the RFEF’s Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas.

In the words of their coach, Ayala the Malaguistas are “super excited” about this tournament that brings them very fond memories, following their win in that magical 97/98 season.

The Malaguista coaching team is working on analysing the rival, who since this year have been coached by Juliana García. The Blue and White coach talks about Seagull's start to the league competition: “They’ve played two matches and lost both, they’re in 12th position, but things are just getting started. Their place in the standings doesn’t reflect their gameplay.” In regard to their opponent’s characteristics, he said “they are a strong team in defence with very direct play.” Taking into account all the data he hopes to “prepare the team to qualify to the next round at home.”

FC Barcelona will be defending their title won in May in Butarque (Leganés), when they defeated Levante UD (4-2).

Format of the Copa de la Reina 21/22

The tournament will consist of six single-match qualifiers, from October to 29th May, when the winner will be decided in a Final Four.

A total of 31 teams are in the first round, 5 from the Primera Nacional that last season competed in Reto Iberdrola, including Málaga CFF, plus 26 from the second division of Spanish women’s football. There will be 15 matches and the last team that came out in the draw advances directly to the second round.
