Carlos Puga and Javier Avilés: “We wanted to come to Málaga CF”

The latest two Málaga CF signings were presented this Tuesday at La Rosaleda, first in the Juan Cortés Press Room and, later, on the main pitch.

Winger, Carlos Puga and attacker, Javier Avilés, the two latest additions to Málaga CF during the winter transfer window, were presented this Tuesday at La Rosaleda Stadium. Along with them, sporting director Loren Juarros thanked the two players for their willingness to come to the Club: “Welcome to Málaga CF, thank you for having valued this place to continue growing as a footballer and for empathising with the situation, valuing the premise not to be linked for more than five months. We hope they contribute what we want for the team and challenge us to remain for longer.”

New experience

Carlos Puga: “I am very happy to be here, adapting has been very easy because I am from a town in Granada and I knew some of the players.”

Javier Avilés: “Adapting to this city is quite easy, it’s one of the best cities in Spain, if not the best. The team has given me a great welcome, I will adapt to the team's game. I am so happy to be here.”

Sporting objectives

Javier Avilés: “My goal is to contribute to the team with goals, improve, score points and see where we go. I have become accustomed to playing as a forward and on both wings, I feel comfortable on both and I don’t mind what position I play in.”

Carlos Puga: “I knew how well Gabilondo is playing, and the Club is happy with him. That is not an impediment to coming to a club like Málaga, I have given every opportunity to be able to come here. Competition is good and it’s better for the team. By training well, I will compete to the fullest with the minutes I’m given and I will make Gabilondo better. By training we are both going to improve and the coach can decide who plays.”

Big decision

Carlos Puga: “I was clear that I wanted to come here, the length of the contract doesn’t matter. If the club wants me to continue, there’ll be no problem. I didn't have minutes at Atlético de Madrid and, when Málaga contacted us, I told my representative that I wanted to come here and be close to my family.”

Javier Avilés: “I wanted to come to this club and help to get it back to where it should be. For me it’s not a step backwards, on the contrary, Málaga has earned respect in Spain, it’s a very important club. The stadium and the fans are impressive, I experienced it the other day. The club has one of the best fan bases in Spain, it was incredible.”
