Camacho: “Atlético are a tough rival, but we’ve had a good run of results in recent matches”
Málaga Club de Fútbol’s Ignacio Camacho held a press conference following this morning’s training session, to analyse the team’s first League match of 2014 against Atlético de Madrid.
Firstly, Camacho talks about his hopes for 2014: “On an individual level, I hope I can stay away from injury, but I hope the team achieves as much success as possible, starting with the important match on Saturday.”
The former Atlético player is fully aware that this weekend’s clash is going to be difficult: “We’ve had a good run of results in recent matches, but we’re up against a strong, tough rival. However we’re also strong playing at our home ground, and a win on Saturday to give us 23 points would put us in a good position. It’s always special for me to play Atlético, I’ve got some great memories from my time there. I hope they can win the League this season as they’ve shown just how good they are.”
Camacho, who scored the winning goal against Elche, played a very physical game: “It was me that happened to get the goal although we had several other opportunities to score. We really needed to win that match. We’re aware that Atlético are a very physical team, so we need to stay strong and work together on Saturday in order to keep the three points at home.”
Following the Blue and Whites’ recent success, Camacho knows they’ll have to keep working as hard as possible in order to continue on the right track: “The Christmas holidays came at the right time for us, to give us time to rest. I’m pleased I’ve had the chance to play in recent games, and with regards to anything having changed, that’s for the coach to say, I’m just concentrating on working as hard as I can.”
Lastly, Camacho isn’t giving much away about the possibility of new players joining the squad during the January transfer window: “We’re all feeling comfortable in the team now, but if new players join us then that’ll be great, but if not, no problem.”
