Cadete Femenino: overcoming adversity, in the MCF Academy

The youngest girls in the MCF Academy ended their sixth season competing in the male category over the weekend.

The MCF Academy has two women’s teams; Málaga CF Femenino Filial and Cadete. The latter is made up of the youngest girls within Málaga CF and this weekend they ended another season during which they’ve been competing in a male category each week. The Málaga CF Femenino Cadete is an example of overcoming adversity in women’s football and, despite their young age, the girls have reached numerous milestones over six years.

During this 2018/19 season, the Malaguista squad has remained in the category, in 14th place with 12 points and 31 goals scored. Despite suffering a 6-1 defeat in the last match against Romeral, Nati Gutiérrez’s team has gone from strength to strength this year. Together with Gutiérrez, Jesús Dorado as technical assistant and physical trainer, and Arturo Abad as team delegate have taken the reins of the Malaguista squad.

The 18/19 campaign has been characterised as one of transition. The Malaguista team is made up of eight second year Infantil players, nine first year Cadete players and four from the second year. This makes the MCF Academy team the youngest in the category.

Internationals

The trajectory of the Malaguista players has grown exponentially this year, and their good performance each week has led to some of the players being called-up by their national teams. Ornella Vignola, at just 14 years of age, debuted with Spain’s U-15s in a friendly tournament in France, and just a week ago she wore the national team shirt with the Under-17s in the European Women’s tournament in Bulgaria.

In addition, Águeda González is also a regular fixture with Spain’s Under-16s. The Blue and White player was also called-up this campaign to defend the national team badge.

Andaluza and Malagueña teams

The Cadete Femenino is a double champion in the Copa Andalucía Femenina, winning the tournament in 2016/17 and 2017/18.

This year, the Under-15s Andalusian team was proclaimed national champion, with Ornella and Claudia Muñoz in their ranks.

In regard to the Malagueña squad, which finished runner-up in the provincial championship, the Malaguistas involved were: María Tomás, Claudia Muñoz, Cristina García, Carmen Jiménez, Yamila and Lucía Núñez.
