Unprecedented victory
The first time in the Club’s history, under all names, to obtain a victory ‘by decree’ in professional league competition. There was a precedent in the Copa del Rey, in 81/82, in which CD Málaga passed the round without playing the return leg.
Two consecutive wins
Following victory at La Rosaleda against Oviedo on league matchday 38, MCF has added another three points to the pot thanks to the 0-1 win against expelled Reus. Since matchdays 21 and 22, with victories away against Zaragoza (0-2) and at home against Lugo (2-1), the team hasn’t achieved two wins in a row.
Results of direct rivals
With leaders, Osasuna a step away from direct promotion, attention is focused on the rivals in the play-offs. Cádiz’s draw against the side from Navarra and Deportivo’s defeat in Lugo allows Málaga CF to remain in the Top 5. Out of the first six teams, who played at the weekend, only Mallorca won (1-0 against Almería), to maintain a +2-point advantage over Málaga. In addition, the Malaguistas have a +4-point lead over seventh place.
Keeping an eye on Albacete-Granada
The present matchday will come to an end this Monday with a duel between the second and third-placed teams. At the Carlos Belmonte, Albacete Balompié (3rd, 68 points) will face Granada CF (2nd, 71 points). In the case of a win for the locals, MCF will move six points away from direct promotion with nine still in play. However, Albacete-Málaga on matchday 41 will be decisive.
