Borja Bastón arrives on loan from the Premier League
Centre forward, Borja Bastón joins Málaga CF 2017/18. The striker, who arrives on a season-long loan from Swansea City, successfully passed the medical at Vithas Salud Rincón Medical Center Rosaleda.
Career
Raised in Club Atlético de Madrid’s youth ranks, Borja González Tomás, known in the footballing world as ‘Borja Bastón’ (Madrid, 1992), made his debut in the elite at 17 years of age in an Atlético-Getafe match, corresponding to the final game of the 2009/10 season. That year he scored 12 goals in 23 matches with the Red and Whites’ reserve team, in Second Division B. Between 2011 and 2015 the striker spent four years with four teams in the now named Liga 1|2|3: Murcia, Huesca, Deportivo and Zaragoza. Bastón moved up to the First Division with the Coruña-based outfit, scoring 10 goals; and was the second highest scorer of the Second Division with Zaragoza, in 2014/15, with 22 goals.
Leap to the First Division and Premier League
The goal-scoring ease of the Madrid-born striker saw him sign to Eibar in the 2015/16 season, where he coincided with Keko and Adrián, performing at an extraordinary level, scoring 18 goals in LaLiga (two goals away from national ‘pichichi’, Aduriz). Last season he moved to Welsh side, Swansea, and a year later returns to the Spanish League to form part of the Malaguista project for the 2017/18 campaign.
An international in the youth categories, he won the U-19 European title with Spain in 2011.
