Miguel and María Victoria are a Malaguista couple who kept at their home the football used in the CD Málaga - FC Barcelona match from 14th April 1974 (0-0). Today they returned it to La Rosaleda.
It was matchday 34 of the 73/74 season in the First Division. FC Barcelona – already champions – visited La Rosaleda to face CD Málaga on Easter Sunday 1974. With Marcel Domingo as coach, the Blue and Whites had the following starting-11: Deusto, Martínez, Monreal, Macías, Irles, Vilanova, Migueli, Benítez, Guerini, Bustillo and Álvarez. Orozco and Viberti were in action in the second half. The visitors, with Rinus Michels at the helm, had Sadurní, De la Cruz, Torres, Rifé, Marcial, Asensi, Juan Carlos, Costas, Sotil, Cruyff and Rexach in the starting line-up. Tomé and Juanito went on as substitutes. The match ended in a goalless draw.
Miguel and María Victoria enjoyed the match from the stands. Both Malaguistas to the core, they were regular fixtures at Martiricos and, together with their children, accompanied the team on countless away games. In an interview with MCFTV, María Victoria recalls how she fainted with emotion at a Blue and White goal. Such loyalty was rewarded by their neighbour and friend, Rafael Serrano, the CDM president at the time. He had the ball from the aforementioned Málaga – Barça clash signed by the players from both teams and presented it to the family.
At their home, located in the popular neighbourhood of El Palo, great Malaguismo personalities of the time came together to share anecdotes with coffee and pastries (such as when Miguel caught the wrong train on his way back from a Málaga – Granada game and returned to the Costa del Sol capital without realising) and the Viberti family who were regulars. This authentic treasure was kept at their home all this time and returns to La Rosaleda after 47 years.
Miguel and María Victoria are now in their 80s and, along with their children, wanted to return this piece of history to where it was once touched by the feet of Vilanova, Migueli and Cruyff. They both talked to the Club media about their passion for football, which is as alive as their love after 60 years of marriage.
Thank you for sharing this family heritage with us. We promise that we’ll take great care of what is such an authentic treasure.
