Atlético Malagueño victorious in Huercal (1-2)

The ‘Malaguista’ reserve team defeated CD Huércal this morning thanks to a great display by Samu Castillejo. With a match still in hand, Salva Ballesta’s boys are a point away from the play-off positions and five points behind group leaders, Marbella FC.

Atlético Malagueño dominated the match from the start, showing great combinative display in the first half, despite not converting chances into goals due to a slight lack of confidence and a good performance by the local keeper.

The Blue and Whites’ reserve team continued to impose their style of play in the second half, with Samu Castillejo creating the best goal opportunities.  Following a Víctor Ruiz corner, Samu outwitted the goalkeeper to put Malagueño in the lead.  However the referee was unsure who scored the goal, and later affirmed it was the player who took the corner.  Minutes after the initial goal, Sofian left too much space upfront which CD Huércal took advantage of to move through the Malagueño defence and power the ball past goalkeeper, Toni.

Despite the equaliser, the ‘Malaguistas’ continued to dominate the game in search of a second goal.  It was a long shot by Samu Castillejo that sent the ball straight to the back of the net signalling victory for the Blue and Whites.

Salva Ballesta’s boys again showed their ability to dominate the rival, with impressive combinative play, and great speed and intelligence.  The opponent maintained a solid defence today and a high-intensity game play, but Malagueño never lost sight of their intention to win.
