Málaga CF Femenino defeated RCD Espanyol by 2-1 corresponding to matchday 5 of the Liga Iberdrola held at the Federación Malagueña de Fútbol ground in front of 500 fans.
The opening stages of play were clearly Blue and White. The dominance of the local side took centre stage for the first 20 minutes and their superiority was highlighted in a superb occasion for Adriana in 18’. The shot by the team captain missed out on Mini’s goal by mere centimetres, as the home side came close to taking the lead. The game continued in the rival area and in minute 25 a long shot from Natalia surprised Mini who sent the ball to a corner. It only took four minutes in 29’ for Dominika to gain possession from a rebound and surpass the RCD Espanyol keeper. With a magnificent strike, the Slovenian scored the first Blue and White goal of the season (1-0).
The local side’s comfort on the pitch was reflected in a second goal thanks to Maria Ruiz. A goal with a Malagueño flavour that the forward made thanks to a great individual display, sending the ball into the back of the net to take a 2-0 lead by half-time.
No sooner had the second half got underway the first opportunity was generated by Adriana Martín, and the second attempt was also made by the captain in 55’. The Blue and Whites continued their dominance as Leti approached Mini’s goal with a super powerful shot from outside the area that grazed the post. Play progressed with possession in Málaga’s favour and in 74’ Contreras made some changes to give minutes to Miriam in substitution of Pamela. Espanyol played a bigger role in the final stages and in 87’ Eli scored the 2-1. The Blue and White substitutions arrived just before the 90th minute. Kuc, Celia and Paula Fernández stepped on to the pitch, but the scoreboard stayed at 2-1.
With this result, Málaga leaves the relegation zone and claims the first victory in Liga Iberdrola.
