Kilometre 9: ‘The Agony and the Ecstasy’

Paraphrasing the famous title of the Carol Reed film, starring Charlton Heston as Michelangelo, Málaga CF turned the match around from a potential defeat to an ecstatic victory.

Here are some of the highlights from the fifth league victory in five home games, against Albacete Balompié (2-1).

Gustavo ‘Heston’ Leschuk

The Argentinean forward brought La Rosaleda stadium to its feet. Two goals from him in three minutes resulted in a fantastic comeback. Blanco Leschuk has scored four goals this season, all four at Martiricos, which led to 9 points. The striker was decisive in the 1-0 wins against Alcorcón and Tenerife with superb goals. A giant.

418 minutes without conceding a goal

Bela from the visitors, from the penalty spot in 58’, broke Málaga CF’s 2018/19 spectacular league streak without conceding goals at La Rosaleda. Four complete games (360 minutes) and a little over half the match against ‘Alba’ without conceding, are the brilliant stats. In turn, the defensive strength makes the Blue and Whites the team to concede the second fewest goals in the category.

Ontiveros-Hicham, pure electricity

Muñiz altered the course of the match from the bench. Once again, and off they go… Following the 0-1, the coach didn’t flinch putting Hicham on in place of Lacen, and beforehand put Ontiveros on in substitution of Pacheco. The two homegrown players were electric on the dribble. ‘Onti’ came close to netting the 3-1 with a superb shot that hit the crossbar.

Juanpi, standing ovation

The Venezuelan number ‘10’ was recognised by the faithful Malaguista fans. At minute 82, with the stadium bursting with adrenaline, the crowd got to their feet for Juanpi Añor as he was substituted by Boulahroud. During his third consecutive game in the starting line-up, showed great technical details of individual quality – and always worked for the benefit of the team.

Second comeback

This Málaga, if they go in front, will almost always ‘kill’ you with a favourable 1-0 score. However, in the league debut in Lugo and against Albacete, at La Rosaleda, the team had to come back from an adverse result. With the proven solvency to maintain the score in their favour, Muñiz’s men also show capacity to react to achieve the desired objective. Win win and win!
