The central defender, on loan from Derby County, is enjoying a very full season at Málaga and affirms: “We won’t let go. We are calmer now, but we want to win everything.”
Don’t give up
“The first objective is salvation, I think with 39 points we’ve more or less secured it, but we’re not going to let it go as there are eight games left. We want to win everything, even in training we’re competitive, and intent on winning. We are calmer now as we’ve achieved what we set out to do at the beginning of LaLiga, or half-way through when we were at the bottom of the table. However, we won’t lose our level of intensity, as we can achieve more. Reaching 7th place is very difficult as there are 24 points left in play and we’re eight points away, but we’re competing against the two teams above us and anything is possible in football.”
Beautiful ending
“The team wants to do something great and continue to earn points. If we are unable to reach 7th place, we at least have to finish 8th. We’re looking ahead to the remaining games, with our only focus now being on Espanyol, but we’re certain we can achieve something wonderful.”
La Rosaleda
“We feel more comfortable playing at home, in front of our fans at our ground. This is where we can take a step forward. We’ve got the match against Espanyol coming up next, so out of these three or four games we can see how far Málaga can go.”
Future
“I want to keep playing and enjoying what’s left. I would like to stay here, and the Club also wants me to stay, but the negotiations must take place in the offices. What I want to do now is enjoy my time with my teammates, the city and the Club I’m at now. I don’t want to think any further ahead or it’ll make me anxious, as at the end of the day I have my family to consider and I’ll want to know where I’ll be. We’ll see what happens, but I think everything will be ok. Everyone searches for happiness, and right now I’m very happy at Málaga.”
Personal improvement
“I think every year you evolve somewhat, and I’ve learnt a great deal of things from the coach. Not just from him, but also my teammates such as Weli, Roberto, Torres, Boka, Angeleri, Filipenko…all the players. I’ve learnt a little something from everyone, and I’m enjoying playing matches. We’re all committed, fighting for every ball and I love this spirit as I experienced it in the lower categories.”
