2011, an exciting year for MCF

2011 is nearly up and they have been an exciting 12 months for Málaga Club de Fútbol, which has experienced significant growth in sporting and non-sporting terms.

Winter transfer market 2011 – Leap in quality
The reinforcements of Baptista and Demichelis and later Willy Caballero, followed by Maresca, Asenjo and Camacho, elevated Pellegrini’s squad to a new level.

 
Grand final of the BBVA League – 2011/12
Málaga secured their place in the elite of Spain football. After a shaky start to the season, they achieved good results in the second half and a First Division record of five straight wins.
 
Arnau’s retirement – The captain’s farewell
The Catalan goalie, Fracesc Arnau, bid farewell to his sporting career after a long stay with the Blue and Whites.
 
The consolidation of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Thani’s project
Málaga CF received an unprecedented economic boost, never before experienced in the Club’s history, thanks to the investment made by the president, Sheikh Al-Thani.
 
Deals with Nike and UNESCO
The sports brand and the worldwide organisation became affiliated with the ambitious Malaguista project.
 
Summer presentations – Signings
La Rosaleda was witness to some spectacular presentations for the players, including Van Nistelrooy and Joaquín who arrived at Málaga last summer, as well as Cazorla’s unforgettable welcome in the Ciudad de Málaga.

Fernando Hierro returns to his hometown to work as the Club’s General Manager

Exciting beginning – 2011/12
Málaga was placed in the top positions of the BBVA League table, with aspirations to be playing in European competitions next year.
 
Deals with Andalusiam clubs – Unity
The Club signed benefit agreements with Córdoba CF and Real Jaén to play in the Vendimia Trophy in Jaén, and the Ramón de Carranza in Cádiz
 

 
Unforgettable moments – New icons
Baptista’s amazing goal against Getafe, Willy’s exceptional save against Villareal, the emergence of the young Isco, and the quality of Cazorla, are just some of the iconic moments in the Malaguistas’ memories.
 
La Academia – Future
Manuel Casanova is leading a project that has at its heart the creation of a new Sports Village as a base for the youth teams.
 
International Malaguistas
A year of records in terms of the number of Málaga players, in the first team and in the youth squads, who have been called-up to play for the respective countries in both Europe and South America.


Málaga in the world
Since the arrival of Sheikh Al-Thani, the Club has gone global, a clear example of this being its presence at Aspire4Sport in Qatar.
 
New official MCF shop
The Club has added to its existing stores in La Rosaleda and the Larios Shopping centre with another shop in the Vialia shopping centre.
 
Malaguista fanbase – Growth and passion
A record number of members, more and more Málaga supporters’ clubs, and La Rosaleda full to bursting, all make the Martiricos congregation one of the loyalest in Spanish football.
