Zaragoza, kilometre 6

A great win for Málaga CF yesterday at the historic La Romareda ground, the third of the season and second away from home for Sergio Pellicer’s men.

There were several positives from #RealZaragozaMálaga that we review here in our kilometre:

Debut goal-scorers

The 1-2 win featured the signature of two forwards who arrived during the recent transfer window. In terms of goals, the imposing figure of Pablo Chavarría emerged. First with a header to secure the 0-1; then shortly afterwards he provided an effective assist to Caye who went on to score the 0-2. May they be the first of many, guys!

Juan Soriano, with a touch of Casillas

The Sevilla-born goalkeeper debuted in Zaragoza to become player number 383 in the history of MCF to wear the Malaguista jersey in an official match. His save from a Zanimacchia attempt at the end of the first half avoided a goal that would have given the locals a psychological boost, and had a touch of ‘Casillas’ about it due it the difficulty and timing. Solid.

Fantastic first half

Little by little, the automatisms that Pellicer wants to instil in the team, which let us not forget is totally renovated, are coming to light featuring the coach’s personal stamp. The famous rock and roll that characterises his teams’ gameplay, during his time with the MCF Academy, was reflected in the first 45 minutes. High pressure, rapid exits in transition, speed to spaces and shots at goal. Do you remember Tapia’s stunning Málaga from the 08/09 season? Well, that.

+3 points worth +10

Málaga CF won three valuable points that put the team in sixth position in LaLiga SmartBank after matchday 6, in playoff positions. A total of 10 points out of a possible 18, six won away from La Rosaleda where on Thursday the lads will face co-leader of the rankings, Real Sporting de Gijón. Dare to dream? Caution, yes, but also with a great deal of ambition.
