“We’re fighting for promotion; we’ll fight to the death on the pitch”

Málaga CF coach, Juan Ramón López Muñiz analyses the Blue and Whites’ squad in the run-up to #MálagaExtremadura.

Objective

“We cannot be surprised that the Second Division is difficult, that it’s hard to win games and that there are many teams together. This is the Second Division, we weren’t going to go up in January or February. We’re now in April and are competing for promotion. The team has been competing well for several months. The players are giving their all and yet I see a note of pessimism. The team has been in the top part of the table throughout the season, but there are good teams who aren’t up there and very good teams fighting relegation”.

Fans

“The team is fighting to the maximum and we ask for the unconditional support of the fans. If we make La Rosaleda a fortress, indestructible, the team will feel stronger and we’ll do the rest. We’ll play better or worse, we’ll go through good times or bad times, but what there’s no doubt about is that we’ll fight to the death on the pitch”.

Effort

“The head has to be in the right place, above all else. I see a united group, players who work hard during matches… I have no doubt about that. The other day we had a man down, that’s when you run more, work harder. We must maintain that sensation at home, with hard work, pressure… that effort is what will give us the final push. Any of the nine teams up there that have a good run will earn promotion”.

#MálagaExtremadura

“They’re playing for their future. We’ll try to win, they’ve got a lot at stake on the one hand, as have we on the other. They need the points to look to the future with more optimism. The other day Mallorca went to Córdoba and lost, Osasuna went to Lugo and didn’t win. There are many surprises now. We’re seeing the reality of the category. I expect an Extremadura that knows what they have to do and who will make the most of their possibilities until the last minute”.
