Weligton: “We want to get points through good play as a team”

Málaga Club de Fútbol’s Brazilian defender, Weligton, spoke to the media today, Monday 13th February, minutes before the morning’s training session.

Weligton’s statements:

(Game against Mallorca). “The most important thing was the three points that we secured and that we got back to winning and adding up.  It was a match that began with an unexpected early goal for Mallorca, but we were able to turn it around and created opportunities.  We had a few very good moments in defence and counter attack and it’s what we were looking to achieve.”

(Personal) “It’s not my position, being a right defender, but the important thing was the team and if the coach needs me, there I’ll be helping out the group.  As the matches go by, and I’ve played in three consecutive ones, I’m getting into shape.  Playing is the only way to tone-up.”

(Playing at home/away) “Playing at home makes you look for a win even more, but the League is very equal and it’s complicated winning away too but we must do it if we’re to achieve the season’s objectives.”

(Team). “The points are the only things that concern us; it’s also about how the team plays.  In this sense, yesterday we did very well, with good football, having a solid defence and being dangerous in attack.  We want to win games through by playing how we want, with the dynamic that we’re looking for.”

(José Carlos Pérez) “We also had to get the win for José Carlos Pérez, a person much-loved at the Club and the city and so we dedicated it to him.”

(Athletic de Bilbao) “It a difficult ground and they’re a tough team, but we have to go there with the mentality of being able to win and of being able to continue to play our football.”
