Weligton: “We want to continue in the same way and play good football”

Málaga Club de Fútbol’s Weligton Robson Pena de Oliveira held a press conference this morning following training, to analyse the team and Friday’s draw at El Madrigal.

Weligton, who equalised for Málaga CF on Friday night against Villarreal, believes the team has turned a corner and is feeling full of positivity: “It’s always good to score, particularly away to a strong rival.  Following Samuel’s injury, Villarreal found it more difficult to gain possession.  We could have equalised sooner and come away victorious, but the most important thing is that we played well and I hope we continue in the same way.  We’ve gained in confidence somewhat and hope to put on a strong performance in our next match.  A defeat would have been unfair.  We deserved more, and had the penalty on Eliseu been awarded, it could have changed the course of play.”

Following the last match, Weligton hopes the team continues to perform well: “We all felt very positive and are hoping for a good result in the Copa del Rey game.  The Cup is a great competition and I hope we can go far and take on Madrid.  We’re determined to play our best football against Osasuna and win at home in front of our fans.”

The Brazilian-born centre-forward hopes the team’s confidence continues to grow over the coming weeks and they achieve good results: “It’s often very difficult to come out of a negative situation, but a few consecutive wins would see us right back in the game.  Our confidence levels aren’t very high at the moment, and when you lose a match it’s tough to find the motivation to work hard.  We need to return to winning ways and ensure we get our confidence back.”

Finally, Weligton is self-critical of his fitness level: “I’m not at my fittest at the moment, but I hope to be back to 100 per cent as soon as possible.”
